American Wagyu

What is American Wagyu Beef?

When purchasing American Wagyu, whether online or from a local shop, it's crucial to understand the cow's genetic composition. Due to lax labeling regulations, many companies exploit this by marketing crossbred, diluted steaks and burgers as "Wagyu" without clearly indicating the percentage of Wagyu genetics. Some even use the term "Kobe Style," which we find particularly misleading. Most American Wagyu is a 50-50 cross between 100% fullblood Wagyu and Angus cattle, resulting in a more marbled steak with a familiar, beefy flavor.

If you choose to buy American Wagyu online, ensure you know its source. Our American Wagyu comes from reputable farms, with the genetic makeup clearly listed on each product page.

Is Japanese A5 Wagyu Better than American Wagyu?

One of the first things you’ll notice when shopping for American Wagyu is that it’s significantly less expensive than the A5 Wagyu you might have seen. But does that make it "worse" or the Japanese version "better"? We believe there's no definitive "best"—it's all about personal preference.

What Does American Wagyu Taste Like?

American Wagyu is perfect for those who prefer a flavor and texture that's less fatty and intensely marbled. Since most American Wagyu is crossbred, it retains the beefy taste and chew of a top USDA Prime steak, while gaining some of the buttery richness from the increased intramuscular fat found in Japanese Wagyu.
